In the Retelling is a daily quote app for iPhone. Each quote has one word hidden for you to complete or reveal. It draws from over 300 selected quotes by more than 70 historical writers and thinkers. Writers include Marcus Aurelius, Shakespeare, Emerson, Jane Austen, and Confucius, among many others.

There are no streaks, scores, badges or celebratory prompts. It is designed to feel simple and unobtrusive, more like a small book on the bedside table than a productivity tool.

The app works fully offline, including in airplane mode. There is no account, no subscription and no tracking.
